PACKAGE DETAILS and Possible Additional Costs

To create a CD is truly a "Work of Art" thus the name "Artist" which is what you as a musical performer honestly are. We take this creation very seriously here at Paradise! We will probably make suggestions to insure your creation is the best it can be. Many of these suggestions will just be free assistance or advise. However, many ofthese extras are time consuming and take great skill and knowledge, and therefore must entail a fee. Our sound engineers, musicians, arrangers, and producers are indeed some of the best in the business! They have extensive experience with all types of music and they have an incredible knack for knowing what works. You are not required to add any of these extras... .in fact.. .your particular music may not need anything extra at all. Please feel free to discuss these extras with us and how they may pertain to your new CD creation.

COPYRIGHT FEES - If you are writing your own music and lyrics you need to have this copyrighted (sent to the Library of Congress) prior to going for duplication. We will assist you with this . . .fee is $60 per song - includes fee to Library of Congress.. ..so if you are doing 10 original songs.. .add $600 to your package costs. Can be done for $60 for whole CD.. .but please discuss pros and cons with us. If you already have these songs copyrighted please bring verification with you.

MECHANICAL LICENSE FEES - If the song/music you are recording is not YOUR creation then we MUST apply for the Mechanical License prior to duplication. This means we have to research the publisher (sometimes there are several) and get permission in writing from each plus pay the standard fee set by the industry. For example, in 2009 that fee is $.091 per song (if under 5 minutes) per CD. This does not sound like much.. .however... if you are having 1000 CD's made that means we have to send the publisher a check for $91. So, if you have 10 songs like this on your CD.. .that is $910. Plus the costs for us to obtain the license (which by the way is a royal pain!).. .our fee is $60 per song if we are given the correct information from you, the artist. If we cannot get the information we need and have to do further research, you will have to decide if you really want to include this song, do your own research or pay an additional fee of $50 per hour of research.

MUSICIANS - We have a list of awesome Musicians we can usually get on reasonable notice. We know who to call to get just the right sound your song needs. Fees average $50-100 per song each or $400 for an 8-hour day in the studio. Sometimes our engineers or producers will play for your song. The same rate applies to them and will be added to your invoice. Whatever musicians are hired, they will need to sign a release and be properly listed on the credits of the CD.

ARRANGER - The Arranger is the person who takes your basic tune and structures it, writes parts for the instruments (horns, strings, background vocals, etc) and helps to create a musical masterpiece. Our current fee is $100 per song. We have 2 remarkably talented Arrangers on staff.

PRODUCER - This person is one of the most important people in the recording process. He takes all the pieces and puts them together to get the desired end result for the song. He controls and oversees the Musical Tracks, the Singers, the Sound Engineers, and the Musicians to create just the right sounds for the project. This person has to know all styles of music, and he must understand the structure of the musical concepts. He must also be able to evoke the right emotion from the Artists and Musicians in order to get the right "feel" for the song. He has to be able to communicate what he is working towards to all the Singers and Musicians. He will also assist with keeping you within your budget constraints if requested prior to project starting. He is included for no additional charge on all packages (because we want it to be AWESOME!) Rick is so good at this and has so much fun doing it that he feels slightly guilty.

WRITER - If you bring in your music and want Lyrics for it.. .we will write them if you record here at Paradise. If you bring in your Lyrics and want us to write the Music .. .we will. We are very very very good at this! We will of course, own the copyright along with you and we will allow you to use the song on your CD for a flat fee of $100 to $250 per song. Rap Beats are usually about the same. The fees to process the copyrights will be split among the copyright owners. If you want to own the song outright you can negotiate that with us and we will sign a release upon completion of the agreement.

MIXING - This is one of the most important steps of the entire CD production. It is often overlooked and needs to be figured into the schedule. The more time that is allotted to mixing the BETTER the finished CD will be! Plan on a minimum of 25% of your total Hours to be spent on mixing. So if you have purchased a 40 hour package plan on at least 10—15 hours of Mixing and Mastering and 25-30 in Recording. Talk to Rick or Dave about ways to maximize your sessions. Mixing is included in the CD package. . .up to the total hours purchased.

MASTERING - This is when the entire CD is tweaked and fine tuned through several complicated steps to be perfect. If this is to come out good... the Sound Engineer must have already done an awesome job of mixing! (Which of course Dave always does!) This fee is already included in the packages. Outside the packages the fee is $100 per hour. Usually 2-3 hours per CD. If you want the ultimate in a Mastering Lab.. .we will send the CD off to our Mastering Genius and (with approximately $1 million in equipment) he will Master it for $950 per CD (up to 12 songs).

PHOTO SESSION & GRAPHIC DESIGN - Included in the package. We will give you a questionnaire to fill out and listen to all of your music prior to the Photo Session. This is so we can visualize the message you are sending with your music. We will schedule your photo session for approx 3-4 hours. We ask that you have your hair and make-up done prior to your appointment with us. We ask that you bring 3-5 different sets of clothes so that we can get a variation on the looks for your CD. We will give your several options on the design but once you agree to a layout and all of the major work is done. . . .if you change your mind there is a $300 fee to redo the design.

ADDITIONAL HOURS OVER THE PACKAGE — If you have purchased a package we will allow as many additional Studio or Mixing hours as you need for the discounted fee of $70 per hour.
